• Introduced new planning methodology and processes to Hampshire TEC. Completely transformed planning and reporting structure with innovative procedures to substantially improve alignment of strategy and operations. Effectively managed a variety of project work including TEC licensing, accountability issues, a detailed partnership audit and self assessment against the Business Excellence Model.
• Overhauled Xyratex's cost control structure by developing and presenting a highly acclaimed training course. This and other management techniques introduced, won me the Chief Executive's Business Improvement Award in 1995. By completely revising and formulating a comprehensive budgeting process I delivered a £2 million saving against a £15 million operating budget within one annual cycle.
• Attained an MSc in Business Economics which strengthened my research and analytical skills. This enhanced my knowledge of management, financial and organisational strategy and validated 20 years of practical experience. This also provided me with an improved understanding of the theoretical background behind my technical expertise.
• Launched my own business operating as an independent financial consultant. Worked for 5 years as a highly successful broker earning in excess of £50,000 per annum. Won and placed business other brokers found impossible to handle and became Royal Insurance's most successful broker in the South of England.
• Set up and managed one of the most successful branch operations in the UK for Beneficial Finance Corporation. Attained a portfolio of outstanding loans valued at £1 million plus allowing the creation of several satellite offices. This was achieved within 3 years and during this period I won various awards including the President's Distinguished Achievement Award and Homeowner Loan Salesman's Award.

Business Reporting Specialist

Employed as specialist consultant to advise Dutch Telecoms Company on how to extend their business reporting and analysis beyond pure financial measures and successfully introduced the Balanced Scorecard reporting methodology.

A role which combined business planning with internal consultancy to improve the organisations' performance measurement processes and review systems as part of an overall continuous improvement initiative.

Pre 1990  Financial Services Industry

By the age of 24 and after intensive training was made executive manager of a consumer finance branch office. This became one of the most successful branches in the country and from this base the parent company sent aspiring managers to be trained.
Achieved many awards including President's Distinguished Operating Award and the Homeowner Loan Salesman's Award.
Then took the opportunity to spend five years as an independent financial consultant, negotiating all types of lending facilities including venture capital to multi-million pound commercial mortgages.
In 1985 was invited to join a lending company in London as the Assistant General Manager later transferring to an American bank during the height of the property boom.
In 1990 after a careful career review decided to apply to Portsmouth University in order to update my business and IT skills and improve my employability.
