Expressive Arts

The expressive arts faculty covers three subjects: Music, Drama and Art.

Art is a popular choice with GCSE students at CHSB, probably because of the wide range of skills that are involved here. Pupils get to work in several mediums: drawing, painting, working with clay, learning batik methods etc. CHSB has excellent art equipment: potter's wheels, its own kiln, dyes and glazes etc. With so many skills involved, there's bound to be something for everybody to enjoy.

Pupils get the option to begin Drama in year 8, as part of a rotation with Rural Science and Study Skills, or they may be given the option of taking up a second language. Later on they get the option to take it as a GCSE subject. Pupils who show a flair for Drama can go to Drama club and display their skills in the school's bi-annual play. We perform a variety of plays, from Shakespeare, to comedies, to musicals, where pupils can display their vocal talents. Which leads us handily on to the next lesson...

Pupils take music twice a week from year 7 through to year 9, and can then take it as a GCSE subject. Pupils who like it or who are talented in it can go to Music club, or can join one of 9 different music-related after-school activities. In music lessons pupils can take advantage of the school's wide range of advanced musical equipment, such as keyboards, drums, and guitars. The school also runs private lessons in almost any instrument you might care to mention.
