The Languages Faculty

Pupils at CHSB can take up to two languages from a choice of four: French, German, Latin and Spanish.

Some pupils begin French in year 7, and if not they may be given the option of taking it up in year 8. If they do begin it in year 7 then they must take it for GCSE. Our excellent french team mean that this is a relatively popular subject at GCSE for those who have a choice (ie. those who take it up in year 8).

Some pupils begin German in year 7, and if not they may be given the option of taking it up in year 8. If they do begin it in year 7 then they must take it for GCSE. Mr Tilbury has been with us for many years now and is a well-respected and valued member of staff.

Although it is officially a dead language, Latin has many uses in the modern world, especially for those who are looking for a career in history or archeology. It is for this reason that we offer it to more able languages pupils in year 8. Unfortunately, pupils are unable to take it for GCSE.

With the spanish economy thriving, it is important that pupils looking for a career in business have some understanding of the spanish language. This is why we offer the language to our more able pupils in year 8. Unfortunately, pupils are unable to take it for GCSE.
