There are five different types of technology that can be taken at CHSB: Design Technology, Automotive Engineering, Food Technology, Graphical Technology, and Information Technology.
Design Technology is the subject that pupils take in years 7, 8, and 9 (apart from a five week period in year 9 while they try food technology). If they wish, they may carry on doing it for their technology GCSE. Basically, in Design technology pupils get to design something, and then build it with our advanced workshop tools (lathes, jigsaws, brazing hearths, sand casters, advanced computer control systems etc.). Pupils get to build things big or small, from fuse testers to clocks to board games, developing wood, plastic and metalwork skills.

Automotive engineering is a GCSE subject that is taken by boys who are interested in cars. It is a very popular subject and the school has a garage set aside for the sole purpose of teaching Automotive Engineering Pupils.
Food Technology is primarily a GCSE subject, but year 9 pupils do get to try it out for half a term to see if they like it. CHSB has a kitchen set aside for Food Technology pupils, with plenty of room, ovens and any kitchen utensils you might need. Due to the nature of the subject, our excellent staff, and the equipment pupils get to use, Food Technology is an extremely popular GCSE subject.
Graphical Technology is a GCSE subject that concentrates on the theoretical aspects of technology, rather than the practical ones. Pupils extensively design their products before making them with a minimum of fuss. Recent Graphics projects have been so good at CHSB that we have sent them on to professional companies, and so far the feedback has been good.
Information Technology is a compulsory subject throughout the school, as in today's increasingly computer-dependant workplace, I.T. skills will be invaluable to the employee of the future. CHSB has three computer rooms, two of which are on a network. Each boy upon enrolling at the school is given his own area on this network which is private and confidential to him.
