Ellinson's Weaving Sweat-shop...



 
Now I'm going back a bit here as this picture was taken in 1974, but this is these poor dear's last shot at immortality (having, I think, blown their first  - they're all dead now). From left to right, we have Rose Hardman, Emily Arnfield and Annie Allison. 

They are not as frail as they look. Emily, centre, used to smoke dozens of Capstan Full Strength filterless cigarettes. A leather-lunged hero if ever there was one!


 
Here's my Mum, working in the same sweat-shop back in the 1950's. Take a good look at that limb-mangling machinery, which was in use until the early 1980's. 'Heading the shuttle' was something of a local sport. That's how my Grandmother got her glass eye.
